As a former Registered Nurse and avid plant-muncher, I’m in love with how simple plant-based foods make it so easy to be beautiful!

Amelia’s Story

Amelia yearns for the day when her skin will radiate beauty, so that she can bid farewell to the self-consciousness she feels from her facial blemishes. While she has known for years that eating healthy is probably a good thing for her health and beauty, here’s the problem: Amelia is an unapologetic carnivore, who relishes the delights of your typical Western diet, where meat, eggs, and fish dominate the daily menu. 

Veggies? And leafy greens? No thanks.

Carrot sticks? What a waste of time. 

Poor vegetables never stood a chance against her disdain. So unfortunately, neither does Amelia’s skin. Little did Amelia know however, that her quest for flawless skin was about to take a turn through the realm of plant-based beauty secrets.

One fortuitous day, while scrolling for the latest skincare tips, Amelia stumbles upon an article that ignites her curiosity. It revealed five extraordinary benefits that certain plants could bestow upon her skin, transforming her into a radiant plant-based goddess!

1. Green Tea: Nurturing Skin and Sanity

First on the list was the enchanting green tea, celebrated for its ability to prevent UV damage and nurture silky smooth skin. This is fantastic, Amelia thought. She had tried matcha for it’s health benefits but had never quite enjoyed the taste.

Even better, green tea is easier to make. 

Amelia imagined herself sipping on a soothing cup of green tea, feeling its antioxidants dance through her body, protecting her skin from the sun’s ageing rays. The thought of indulging in a moment of tranquility whilst also preventing skin damage excited Amelia. Green tea would become her morning elixir, nurturing her skin from within.

However, Amelia soon encountered a minor stumbling block in her quest to make green tea a daily habit. Mornings remained as chaotic as ever, leaving her with little time to brew a cup of green tea before rushing out the door. Frustrated, she pondered over a solution that would seamlessly integrate green tea into her busy work schedule.

Whilst walking down a shopping aisle for a new box of green tea, a brilliant idea sparked in Amelia’s mind – why not bring it to work? She realised that her office had a well-stocked pantry and hot water dispenser, so she could enjoy her tea without any hassle. Excited by the prospect, she bought a couple small boxes of green tea that would easily fit.

The next morning, Amelia arrived at her office and settled into her desk. Feeling the need for some calm quite quickly, she reached for her green tea stash and her favourite cup. Smiling, she dunked a tea bag into the hot water, letting the fragrant steam engulf her senses and thinking about how she was taking care of her skin. This felt like the true definition of health and beauty.

Eventually, Amelia found solace in the familiar taste of green tea. She looked forward to her morning routine of pausing her hectic morning whilst also nurturing her skin and her mind.

On her way home Amelia remembered the second plant-based ingredient on her list: captivating spices. Amelia’s taste buds tingled as she imagined tantalising her palate with the aroma and richness of aromatic spices. Cinnamon, turmeric, paprika, and cumin – there were a symphony of flavours in your pantry that you could always rely upon.

However now she saw them in a new way: as protectors of youthful skin! 

Using these simple pantry staples, exotic spices would elevate her culinary mis-adventures to new heights, whilst transforming each meal into a nourishing feast for her skin.


Amelia’s spice rack became a treasure trove of possibilities. She sprinkled a pinch of cinnamon onto her morning oatmeal, instantly infusing her breakfast with warmth and a hint of natural sweetness. This delectable addition not only delighted her taste buds but also provided her skin with a boost of antioxidants, aiding in maintaining its youthful glow.


Next, Amelia ventured into the world of turmeric, a golden wonder known for its anti-inflammatory properties. She experimented with adding a dash of turmeric to her curries and stir-fries, mesmerised by the vibrant hues and earthy undertones it lent to her dishes. Little did she know that this humble spice was working its magic, helping her skin maintain its natural radiance.


Paprika, with its fiery red hue, brought a burst of excitement to Amelia’s culinary escapades. From sprinkling it over roasted vegetables to using it as a rub for grilled tofu, this smoky spice elevated her meals to new heights. Unbeknownst to her, paprika was generously supplying her skin with a dose of antioxidants, shielding it from the ravages of time.



Last but not least, Amelia explored the wonders of cumin, an aromatic spice that added depth and complexity to her dishes. Then there was the irresistible avocado, the green goddess of skincare. Rich in healthy fats and vitamin E, this creamy delight would nourish Amelia’s skin from within. Just picture it: a luscious avocado toast topped with ripe tomatoes, a sprinkle of zesty lime juice, and a pinch of sea salt. 

Amelia’s mouth began to water at the thought of it. This definitely would be a good alternative to eggs.

But, alas, a nagging concern crept into Amelia’s mind. Would indulging in the avocado’s rich fats lead to unwanted weight gain? She hesitated, worried that her desire for beautiful skin might come at the cost of her waistline. Little did she know that the avocado’s magical powers held a delightful secret.

The fourth plant-based food on the list really surprised Amelia. 

It was the wonder of sweet potatoes, or the  golden treasures of the earth. Bursting brightly with beta-carotene, these humble spuds promised to give Amelia’s skin a sun-kissed glow, minus the harmful rays. 

While Amelia was not chef, she could quickly chop up some sweet potatoes and set them in the oven. This was great, and possible to do after a long day at work. When drizzled with a tantalising blend of olive oil and fragrant herbs, the aroma made Amelia’s tummy rumble with anticipation.


As for sweet potatoes’ skincare benefits, Amelia was delighted. Beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A in the body, playing a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin, vision, and immune function. It also acts as a shield against harmful free radicals, helping to protect our cells from oxidative damage.

Unfortunately, a small cloud of doubt formed in Amelia’s mind – the time it takes to bake sweet potatoes. With her busy schedule, Amelia feared there wouldn’t be enough time to incorporate them into her diet regularly. 

But where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Amelia was determined to find a solution.

Armed with a bit of plant-based research and a pinch of creativity, Amelia discovered a quick and easy ways to enjoy the goodness of sweet potatoes. She realised that steaming sweet potatoes was a time-saving alternative to baking. With a steamer basket and a pot of boiling water, she could have tender, golden sweet potatoes ready in a fraction of the time.

To add a burst of flavour and make her sweet potato meals even more nourishing for her health and beauty, Amelia experimented with various toppings and seasonings. She found that she loved a sprinkle of cinnamon, or some crunchy spiced chickpeas to go with them. This simple combination created a depth of flavours that made her taste buds dance with joy.

5. Berries: Enchanting Powerhouses of Skincare

By the time the weekend came around, Amelia was already a convert to eating more plant-based food for skincare. She could believe how easy it could be!

However, there was one last food to try. 

The article had raved about luscious enchanting berries: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and more. They were described as little jewels of skincare goodness. 


In fact, these tiny powerhouses stood second to none when it came to antioxidants (even kale!), making them a force to be reckoned with in the world of skincare.

Amelia wondered why they hadn’t been listed as number one on the list then. She had lost a week of berryliciousness because of it.

That said, Amelia embraced the pretty world of berries and found simple ways to incorporate them into her daily diet. First, she started her mornings with a beautiful bowl of berry-infused overnight oats (sprinkled with cinnamon of course!). 

Each spoonful was a scrumptious reminder that she was spoiling her skin whilst also spoiling her tastebuds.

On warm summer mornings, Amelia would whip up a stunning and refreshing berry smoothie bowl, full of frozen strawberries, blueberries, and a ripe mango for extra sweetness. 

With plant-based milk of course.

With each spoonful, Amelia indulged in the fresh flavours and relished the fact that she was enjoying a skincare treat.

For a light and satisfying lunch, Amelia created a berry-packed salad with a citrus dressing that was as beautiful as it was delicious. She combined a bed of fresh mixed greens with an assortment of berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. To elevate the flavours, she added some citrus segments like orange or grapefruit and tossed the salad with a tangy citrus dressing made from freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, a drizzle of olive oil, and a touch of maple syrup. The combination of crisp greens, juicy berries, and zesty dressing made each bite a delightful burst of freshness. 

With each of these enjoyable and plant-based berry creations, Amelia celebrated the fact that she could prevent acne and ageing deliciously. The natural antioxidants present in berries not only enhanced the flavour profiles of her meals but also nourished her skin from the inside out. 

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh at the sheer simplicity it all. Who knew that her journey to flawless skin would lead her down a path of plant-based wonders? With a newfound determination and a twinkle in her eye, she bid adieu to her meaty ways and embraced a plant-based lifestyle with open arms.
